Meet the coaching team

Brendan Dunn

Brendan has a broad background in sports and fitness, playing any sport that was available throughout his schooling years Brendan also represented his school at the state level in swimming, athletics and touch football.

It was through rugby union that Brendan found CrossFit. With the desire to become a bigger, faster, and stronger athlete, he consulted his older brother Pat who introduced him to the training methodology.

Brendan’s love for training came about after his good friend suffered injuries from a car accident. The accident saw his friend hospitalised for 6 months and his weight spiral out of control as a result. To do something about it, the two started training together in a garage gym set up. This is where Brendan’s passion for training and helping others really took hold.

Brendan is the co-owner of Community Fitness Canberra.

Brendan loved that despite his friend’s physical limitations due to his accident, they could still train together and complete the same workout due to the scalability and inclusiveness of the functional style of training. Brendan’s friend lost over 40kg and has kept the weight off. This success sparked Brendan’s aspirations to guide others to achieving the seemingly impossible, and help them reach their health and fitness goals.

In 2013, Brendan moved to Canberra where along with his brother Pat they opened Community Fitness Canberra. From humble beginnings, the gym grew, as did Brendan’s knowledge and expertise, spending his time continually learning and always looking to develop his coaching skills. Brendan’s aim is to help the everyday person achieve their goals by giving them the tools and knowledge to be successful.

Through his constant drive for knowledge Brendan became the first coach in the ACT to be accredited as a certified level 3 CrossFit trainer CCFT

Maddie Thomas

I’ve grown up around such inspiring people who educate a whole range of people in different industries. Due to this, all I have ever wanted to do was be like the people I look up to. I have learnt so many skills and tips from amazing people and would like nothing more to help others in any way possible. I have a passion for training and CrossFit movements and the environment has such a great energy that I love being apart of!

What are your 2 favourite exercises/workouts?

My favourite exercises and movements are definitely the two Olympic lifting lifts along with good old handstand push-ups!
